It's not quite a tale as old as time, but it has been breaking down the doers, #influencers, and even innocent bystanders. It does not exist only in the beauty realm, but spreads its fury far and wide.
It is the supposed freedom of speech we were born with. The right to say what ever we want when ever we want. This #epidemic being fueled by social media platforms where supposed words do not hurt and we can act and/or say anything without repercussions.
The truth of the matter is those words do hurt. Those mean, hateful, and non-constructive word vomits hurt! I am unsure where the 'if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all' died when the technological generation bloomed. Isn't The Beast supposed to get softer and sweeter as we get to know it? Instead, there is a trend to pick [no tear] someone apart for being human, for making mistakes, and sometimes for being themselves. Why are we so quick to judge? Are we perfect?
I grew up being told that if you would be hurt by someone saying those words to you then why would you say them to someone else. "Think before you speak." Help me understand what the point of it is!
I value someone's opinion when it is constructive to help better me as a person. Taking stabs with chewed up facts and just to say something-anything; it's such a waste of time. Could we be doing something with that time in a more positive light? Fifteen extra minutes with our children, our spouses, slaying a beauty look, saying something kind-hell doing something kind. . .
#Kindnessmatters even on social media. Even when they are just words on a platform to some stranger thousands of miles away or sitting right next to us. As easy as it is to comment-it is just as easy to scroll on through.
Next time we don't like something or somebody, take a moment before we belligerently start typing. Ask ourselves:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill & better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
I'd love to hear your #lipsmack in the comments below.
